Quiet! Or you’ll tarnish the children.

Think about this everytime you want to feel outraged about something a child does.

We, the adults, are the gross ones putting inappropriate meanings into everything.

My sister showed this to me today. She said the media was making a big deal about it. She didn’t necessarily think it was so bad.

When you first see them you go “Whoa!!”. I laughed I was so shocked.

“I can see why some adults are upset” I thought but then I stopped thinking like an adult.

Fellow adults, there’s one thing you must always understand about kids.

These kids don’t understand any of the things that they’re doing.

Do you really want to take their innocence away by making them feel guilty about clothes?

To them it’s just clothes. Like a bathing suit. Fishnets, short shorts, and midriffs have no sexual meaning in their world.

Kids are always innocent and I find that it’s the adults that always mess things up for them.

Now with this uproar you have to explain to these kids what fishnets “really” mean, what short shorts are “all about”. For everyone’s sake, we should just be quiet.

These little girls are not doing anything inappropriate.

We are.

Clothes are just clothes. Dancing is just dancing.

Applaud them for their amazing dancing abilities and get over it.

I’ve watched it three times already.

They’re amazing. :-)

The Thing about Twitter

So I decided to go on twitter a few days ago. At first it was a protected (private) account. After a few days I decided to go public. I had some concerns about it and I’ll talk about that on this post.

So I went on twitter.I found a couple of friends and I’m following my favorite people. I had  also decided to protect my twitter account. I guess I was just used to doing that because that’s the way my other accounts are set up.

However, in a matter of days, I realized that maybe this wasn’t the best idea and that my twitter should be public because:

1) only 5 out of the 200 friends I have are on twitter and I want a balance between my # of  following and followers.

2) anyone I may want to respond to can’t reply to me unless they request me and I can see how that makes communicating more of a pain in the ass.

3) I see how fun it is to reply to people right away and I want to do that with more people.

You would think that these reasons convinced me. It kind of did but I think it would be a good idea to voice my concerns about a public twitter just in case anyone ( especially a woman) wants to do public but is hesitant.

MY CONCERNS ABOUT PUBLIC TWITTER

I’ve had public accounts on other sites and so I kind of know what it’s like. Random people start talking to you, especially men. So far I’ve had nice experiences, nothing awkward. But I guess as a woman you can’t help but imagine these scenarios where someone is trying really hard to find out everything about you. That’s the main concern I think for anyone especially a woman.

However,

oddly enough when it comes to twitter I don’t really get that vibe. Most people aren’t really beat to remember you or follow you unless you are or look like a celebrity. On twitter I’ve seen tons of accounts with people who actually have their full name and ….I can’t remember a single one. I’m assuming it’s the same with everybody else.

The other thing about twitter is that it’s really more of a place to voice your opinions about current events. Currents events could be News, celebrity news, or some crazy, funny crap that you just saw or that you just experienced.

It’s not really a place where you put random pics of you partying every weekend unless it has some importance or quirk to it. That’s what I’ve noticed so far. This really helps prevent disclosing too much information about yourself.

Conversations, searches and rss feeds.

On twitter if you’re public EVERYTHING’s public. People can read your conversations and things like that. At first this was disturbing but then I thought ” Well what the hell would I talk about that could be considered so incriminating?”

I mean, I’m not a teacher or in some other profession where you have to be all serious so who cares?

Then I remembered, “Oh…Direct Messages” I would only talk in depth with those I’m kind of close to or to my followers anyways….and so would you. There’s your loophole.

After that, I got over it.

So in conclusion as long as you use twitter as commentary on things (which is the point) then it’s fine.

“Jersey Shore” no worse than “The Real World”, Might be better.

So I just finished watching the show Jersey Shore on MTV. I saw the commercial a few weeks ago and was curious about watching it.

People were making this big deal about it…Oh it’s going to be so bad, trashy..etc.   Seriously it’s not worse than the real world.

The format is exactly the same. They just put a bunch of “guidos” and “guidettes” in a house together. They have to work at a t-shirt place on the boardwalk and they party, have sex…blah blah blah.

At least it was more entertaining than the real world. This first episode was a two hour special and there were so many things going on that I don’t really even know where to start.

So I’m just going to go all over the place….because it’s late. Bare with me.

Ok. Little short girl “snookie”, everyone in the house calls her shnookums or snickers  because they can’t get her name right. LOL

The girl acted like …total slops when she got there getting drunk right away and tried to hook up with everybody….even the girl roomates in the Jacuzzi.  Nobody was having that. Ronnie, Vinny, all of the guys turned her down.

did they just get conservative on us? I mean compared to the real world?

Yeah they did. I recall the first day of a Real World starting out with a hook up between roomates in a jacuzzi. Two girls were making out with a guy watching to be specific. I can’t remember the name of that one even though I saw that season. There was Vegas where Trishelle and what’s his name hooked up.

Yet none of that happened here….at least not between roomates…yet. Pauly D and JWoww ( hahahaha) are definitely going to have sex.

Anyway, my point is that “Jersey Shore” is actually not that bad. It’s no different than “The Real World”. They might even behave better…..we’ll see.

My opinion on the cast

Snookie was acting up for the camera and went a little too far. She took a break then went attention hunting again….by being the first girl to bring a guy home….who threw up in the roof hang out area. LOL! She deserved that because she was acting pretty desperate.

Pauly D…or whatever is just doing his thing.

The girls need to mind their business when the guys invite other girls over.

Angelina is pretty annoying.

Mike “The situation” says “The situation” Too damn much. We get it. There’s a situation that you (the situation) are going to have to take care of. OMG! Stop.

Speaking of situations, Mike’s found himself in a really crappy one, that he doesn’t seem to have the capacity to take care of.

See he was really feeling one of the girls in the house “sweetheart” and they were talking and holding hands down the boardwalk by the end of the first night.

The next day or so Ronnie (the really buff one) tells Mike that he likes “sweetheart” too. Mike thinks nothing of it since Ronnie is “not ‘the situation’ ” *sigh*

Anyways, they go out one night. There Mike and “Sweetheart” kiss for a little bit.

Next thing you know “sweetheart” decides she really likes Ronnie and wants to pursue him so she goes up to him, starts dancing and they start making out…heavy.

Mr. Situation is watching it all go down. Mr. self proclaimed “Player” just got played. hahahaha.  I kinda felt bad but not really. The night before he and the guys, except Ronnie, were in the jacuzzi with some naked women.

I like Ronnie. My opinion on him is that he’s going to be the voice of reason in the house.  I won’t get into it much. I feel as though I am taking up too much space and time on this. If you watched it you know why I like him.  If you didn’t watch it, go ahead and do so.

If you can stomach Real World and ESPECIALLY the challenges then you can definitely deal with this one. It’s really not that bad.

They made dinner for crying out loud. They can cook. They sat down at the table this  episode. I can’t remember when that happened at one of these other shows.

So there will be lots of fighting and craziness but if you’ve ever partied hard in your life, these people won’t be showing you anything you haven’t seen already.

So enjoy. I will be watching.

No more Oprah?!

Oprah has decided to end the show. When I first saw that headline I was like…”aww man”  and I was kind of sad.

But then Whew! she’s ending it in 2011.  I was all thinking that she was ending it next week/month or something…lol

Throughout the years, I’ve heard some criticisms about her. Some have said “she’s boring”, others have said..”Oh she don’t even deal with her people on her show she mostly deals with upper middle class/rich people.” “Her show doesn’t really help the people that really need help” and some other stuff like that.

Those who think she is boring,  It’s not that she’s boring or that her topics are boring, I just think that the vibe of her show most of the time is a little too relaxed and calm for some people so I get it, but you got to be on the look out because the next day or next week she’ll have a show that’s really interesting….and then you miss out.

Although I don’t make it a point to watch her show every single day, I think her show has been a great service to many people. She’s covered all kinds of issues that affect all people.

I think her show has inspired her just as much as it’s influenced other people. I think of those times when she would give money to audience members and they would have to use that money to help others. Oprah’s amazing so she probably would’ve thought of that without the show but the fact that she could do it on TV must have excited her even more.  TV, video is just better for documenting certain things.  Could you imagine that only being shown in an article in her magazine? The strength of the message would not have come close to what it needed to be if it was just  in an article.

I believe her show is journalism at its finest. Why? Oprah has done what so far no one else has been able to do.  She’s the only one who’s managed to figure out how to cover issues, or as one of my professors would say ” news that oozes”. It was discussed a lot in college whenever we talked about the problems journalism faces. News covers events and then slightly covers the issues behind it…..when they have to. As soon as the event ends, it almost appears as if the issue ended with it and that’s a big problem when their objective is to be a service to their public.

Regular old news can’t figure out how to discuss broad issues but Oprah has managed to do so. She’s covered everything from world hunger to schizophrenia, bullying, abuse, breast cancer and social class. Think of an issue and most likely she’s covered it.

And that’s why she would be greatly missed on TV when she’s done. It’s almost the end of real quality TV shows that serve a purpose. At least she has her spin off shows like Dr. Oz.

And anyway Oprah is most likely going to do a  show on her network OWN so it’s all good.
