My long overdue report on The Grammys

The 52nd annual GRAMMYS

The Grammys this year were really fun to watch. Everyone looked polished and the performances were exciting. There were lots of things to talk about so here are the things that stood out for me.

RED CARPET

During the Red Carpet, I hardly saw any real fashion messes. The people who really stood out in that department were Ciara and Kesha.

Ciara’s outfit was by far the worst I think I’ve ever seen her wear. What seemed to be a beautiful lacy dress was covered by this weird penguin tailed blazer made out of like….what?…rope? . With Gems!! Ugh! How could she?   And then…I realized that lacy dress she was obstructing was actually a pantsuit! Oh Hell no! Violation!!

That was the worse thing I remembered seeing on the red carpet.

Then there’s Kesha or um…sorry Ke$ha. Her hair was a bit messy for the dress in my opinion.

And yeah…I get it. You’re going to be wearing a feather and a glittery star or whatnot on your one eye…it didn’t work with the dress she was wearing. On top of that, she pairs her shimmery gold metal fringe dress…with what looked like suede brown open toe shoes?  No good.

Good Looks

Ok now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, we can move on to the looks I thought were great.

I really liked Pink’s dress.

I thought it was cute. I loved the color and the way it faded in the dress.  She look very beautiful for the awards.

Fergie’s dress was cute but still very dressy and appropriate for the Grammys.

She looked fantastic in that color!

Katy Perry looked very pretty as well. That backless part was SEXY!!

You go girl!

That added just the right amount of edge to the dress.

Rihanna looked so gorgeous. I loved the all white and the feathers. I loved it because the whole feather thing is still out of the ordinary but it was done in a soft way. To me she can do no wrong .

Country Singers Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood looked great as well. I like to see Taylor with her hair  tied up more as opposed to those weird ringlets she wears and her dress was very pretty. I loved the sparkle.

And despite the fact that Carrie’s dress looked a bit wrapped around in a weird way, She still looked very polished which I can appreciate.

TREND

I noticed there were a lot of neutral colors and more sand, beige around than other years. A lot of the celebrities I can remember were wearing dresses in those colors.

Keri Hilson

Beyonce

Katy Perry

and Ashanti were all wearing sandy/beige/nude.

I do have to say that Beyonce’s dress at the Red Carpet was a bit questionable. I felt the dress had a lot going on with those designs. Thankfully the dress fit so well on her that it was admissible. Her hair looked great.

I noticed the shimmery, glittery hairpieces she was wearing. Though I felt it was much with the dress I still appreciated it. I especially appreciated it because I was thinking of doing something like that so yay!! Someone has it on! LOL

Lady GAGA was doing her thing. I actually thought it was cool. I liked the hair. I especially liked the shoes.

If I had money I would probably attempt to wear those out….obviously not with that outfit.

Oh and Jennifer Hudson looked Very Nice.

And I gotta say Thankfully Haley from Paramore wore something nice. I don’t remember which year it was but …she wore these weird socks with her dress and it completely ruined her dress. But I am so glad that she improved. The band looked great.

PERFORMANCES

The show started off with a Lady GaGa Medley and her performance was fun and out there as usual.

The stage was set as some kind of factory where they discarded her into this disposal that results in her coming out with Elton John, both dusty and playing piano decorated with arms.

She got a bit crazy moving her head around and her glasses flew right off. But it was all good. It was cool.

Although Beyonce looked very pretty on stage, I felt her performance was a lot of noise that didn’t really make sense. In my opinion it was a big mess. She walks on stage escorted by a whole bunch of feds or special forces, very dramatically, there’s wind blowing effects, marching sounds…the whole bit.

Then she goes on to sing Beautiful Nightmare then out of nowhere proceeds to stop everything and sing Alanis Morrisette’s “Oughta Know” then proceeds to transition into one of her own songs by getting on the ground shaking like a maniac for no reason, looking frantic and then she sings…I don’t really remember what she was singing the point is…..I had a few questions after the performance was over. Questions like…What was the point of the soldiers? Why was she screaming so much? What is the relevance of “oughta know” to the set/her on stage,  How does all of this tie in?

Can anyone explain why?

If you provoke that many weird questions, you didn’t really entertain. You know who did?

The Black Eyed Peas, I enjoyed their performance a lot. I’m glad they are going in the direction they are going. I loved the costumes they had on for the performance. I’m happy to see that they’re doing this futuristic thing and they can evolve around that.

It’s a good look, sound, and vibe that definitely suits them well.

The Green Day performance was great. That is so cool that American Idiot is going to be a Broadway show. Aw man!! I can’t wait to see that…. I thought it was a great idea to introduce the cast on stage and have them perform. The cast sounded great.

Very Nice!

I LOVED PINK’S PERFORMANCE!! I loved the way she looked when she came out, I loved her bodysuit when she took the dress off. I gotta say at first I was all like “ oh boy…she’s going to do that same kind of stunt again?” Then I was like “wait let me give her a chance because she did use the stunt poetically last time. Perhaps she’ll do that again.” Said and Done, that is what she did.

The Imagery that she created while being up there all wet, relaxed, being spun around really went well with the song. It was that much more beautiful.

Damn! I’ve been sleeping on Pink’s music huh?

I’ve liked her performances lately and the songs linger for a while afterwards. Hmmm…I must hear more. She looked amazing. Her body looked amazing too. It was all a very pleasant experience.

Jamie Foxx’s performance was so much fun. They did a fun mix for the show with Slash appearing on stage doing a riff from November Rain and having it mashed with “Blame It” How cool.

It was all very grand and entertaining. Definitely one of the best performances of the night.

Then there was the Michael Jackson tribute. It was a 3D tribute which I have to look at again with my 3D glasses. It was nice and they sang one of my favorite songs from MJ “Earth Song”. I know it’s not a competition or anything and it was very well done but I kind of liked MTV ‘s tribute better. Is that wrong? Lol sorry. But still I was happy they did one even though it was just one song. It’s a given. They had to do the tribute. Very nice.

I can’t recall any other performance but …one more thing.

Jennifer Lopez

Of course, did you think I’d really forget? She looked so lovely. I think it’s the best she’s looked so far since she came back onto the scene.

She's still got it! lol

I guess that’s everything.

I don’t really focus on the nominations and who won except if I REALLY am into one particular album or a set of albums. That just wasn’t me this year.

I’m going to end it saying in my opinion, there were two disappointments that stood out, Song of the Year and Album of the Year. Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” OVERRATED! It won a Grammy? I mean don’t they appreciate things like intricacy in composition and things like that? Was that REALLY the best song the whole year? in terms of musicality?

Then there’s Taylor Swift. I’m not all that bummed. I get why they gave it to her as opposed to another nominee. But anyways, guess who I think should’ve won both? It’s not the end of the world though because she collected some Grammys anyway so as long as they didn’t snub Lady Gaga, I’m satisfied with the awards this year.

In My Head: Britney, Fred, Rihanna

On the week before Christmas, these were the songs looping in my head over and over….

In My Head: Triple: 69 eyes, Rihanna, Beyonce

The songs of the moment that I just find myself humming to or whatever are these songs.  ( *update: Bad Romance is still in my head.)

I’m gonna run away with you……

Yeah Yeah Yeah….

Sweet dream or a beautiful nightmare/either way I …..

I’m not usually into Beyonce but it’s stuck whether I like it or not……I don’t like it……LOL

AMA 2009

*I would put all of the  videos but you know how it is with Dick Clark Productions. All the videos were up and running immediately after the Awards were done. Now they are being taken off because of a copyright claim. Oh boy, It’s not even like they are going to put the crap on DVD to sell them to us. And It’s also not like they are going to repeat the awards. So what the hell’s the problem?  Get with the program.

The American Music Awards were pretty good yesterday. They had a lot of great artists performing so I was definitely looking forward to it yesterday. Here’s what I thought.

Janet Jackson was first to perform. She was doing a bunch of her hit songs. Eh, It was alright. I think I would’ve gotten into it more if  she had a different outfit.  I was just thinking the whole time “What’s with the peasant look?” The dancers had what looked like cheap potato sacks as shirts on. They looked waaay too earthy to be on stage. I don’t know …wasn’t feeling it much. Too much brown beige and fatigue green going on.  She looked too baggy in all of the wrong places. She has great songs though so it wasn’t so bad.

I’ll tell you whose performance concept was bad.

Alicia Keys

Wow, wackness. First of all I’m not into the whole super hero thing she came up with to go along with this song. I think it’s such a  ridiculously cheesy attempt at trying to do something interesting or out of the ordinary for her that it just falls flat.

I was not feeling that chain jacket btw.

In this performance nothing made sense. There’s this brick wall in the middle of the stage out of nowhere, She and the dancers were dancing in front of it the whole time when they probably would’ve been better off moving around the whole stage, and as they are doing these sets of like, reggae dancing that has nothing to do with the vibe of the song, this dude climbs on top of the brick wall behind them and is like trying to dance but keep his balance at the same time? What was that?  Towards the end of the song he finally gets down and dances with her, but it’s all weird.

Ok I realize I am taking up too much space on her….you get the point.

Shakira

I thought Shakira’s performance was good. It was cute, and pretty simple which is what she does so good for her. I can’t lie. Despite this I was pretty disappointed because I know she can do cooler stuff than this but I don’t think she was trying to wow the audience and make this awesome performance.

She was just there to do a little dance and sing alittle song. Now that everyone’s so intent on pushing the envelope or reinventing themselves in someway It’s kind of refreshing to watch Shakira.

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga’s was very good. I am starting to see how she works on stage. Do a dance number then do the piano thing. That was cool. I definitely liked the blinking rib…thingy she had on. Not much else to say about her.

JLo

JLo came back, and unfortunately busted her ass a little bit.

Come on, so what? She’s a person. You are bound to slip up on a performance or two. It was pretty obvious though. She tried her best to hide it.

Anyway, I thought the boxing theme was cheesy. Sorry. I am kinda happy she is back but I gotta be honest.  It was kind of cute once I got over that.

The song was ok but why Louboutins and why do I have to hear that about twenty times in the hook? The shoes are very nice. Louboutins are great but I’m just saying…it’s a recession.  After a while that got annoying. Too bad because the sound itself is nice.

Not too bad, but not her best. For a comeback, not much to it.

Rihanna

She did what she always does. She’s never been one to give amazing performances with all the theatrics and things like that. She looked great. I love her outfit.

I love that her little jacket was shooting out lasers.

Her boots were cool and thankfully she picked the songs that she did because I certainly did not want to hear russian roulette. I like it but it’s a bit of a downer.

ADAM LAMBERT

He put the guy’s head all up in his  Crotch. I don’t know why I wasn’t expecting it. I kinda laughed out of shock but also because I was happy he was doing it. He was like sticking it to the anti gays in the country which did make me a little happy inside.

“You Don’t like it? Too damn bad!”

His voice sounded great as usual. I did notice his voice was not as great on like two points in the song but it’s Adam Lambert. Any other singer would be lucky to have his “kinda crappy vocal day”.

He fell too but you really couldn’t notice. He made it look intentional, as if he was trying to do a drop/roll kind of thing. Nice Save!

He made out with the keyboardist guy. He touched a few ladies inappropriately too. LOL.

It was pretty good. It definitely was memorable for better or worse depending on who you talk to.  I just thought that because of all that was going on you couldn’t really hear his voice.

I guess we will have plenty of time to listen to his amazing voice. His album, I believe it came out today.

That’s all I had to comment on so til next time.
